Genocide.

June 3rd, 2008 · 1 Comment

The word “genocide”, is a word that is filled with hatred.
Hitler, Mussolini, Kim Jong-Il, Castro all are people that are still talked today on the news and the history chanel, for what they have dont in the past (kim jong-il is still alive, and still is cooporating in geonicide in North Korea, same with Castro is still alive, however is not participating in the government anymore in Cuba; his brother is)
Have you ever seen the movie “Hotel Rwanda”?
or perhaps the movie “Blood Diamond”?
I am not the type of person who sheads a tear in a movie, however in the movie “Hotel Rwanda” i can honstly say that i balled my eyes out watching the film.
So real, and so there, its like your watching something you love and care for and then right in front of you you see something just horible happen to the person you care for.
There is genocide going on in this world.
This year,
This month,
This week,
This day,
This moment.
Africa is now known as the largest contident with the most genocide. Darfur, Uganda, Rwanda, all of which are infamously known the most.
Heck, Darfur is still going on. One of my best friends, Skylar Lester lives with her grandmother. her grandmother is such the steryotipical grandmother that everyone wishes they have. very sweet woman. Now, the other day i was talking to my dear friend sky and we somehow got on the topic of lions. yeah i know, pretty strange, and we usualy dont talk about things like that, but we somehow did that day, and then skylar revealed to me that her grandmother was a photographer.
WOW! a photographer?! okay, not sur i mentioned it, but not only do i love to write, but i am also a huge fan of taking pictures. so she told me that and i was going crazy. Then Sky revealed to me that one of the most famous shoots that her grrandmother went on, and is most known for is taking pictures as the genocides were going on in Rwanda.
um…holy cow? this sweet grandmother that i have known to love was on the front lines of a battlefield and risked getting her head chopped off by a michette? Her coolness level just went up a million points in my book.

These pictures of the past.
Pictures of children,
Pictures of animals,
Pictures of people dying.

all made me realize, that no matter who we are, and what might be going on in our lives, we are all of the luckiest people to not have to go through what those people had to go through, and what those people are going through right this second.

save darfur

Bullying, videotaping it, and putting it on YouTube? jeeze guys…???

May 1st, 2008 · No Comments

Okay, seriously, if we have come this low, we all know that something is wrong. Sure, you would think that people would have some common sense, and enough love towards mankind to never do such a thing. However the generation that is upon us seems to be thinking different. Why are teenagers doing this? There is a very popular trend going around lately, and the trend is to beat someone up, videotape it, then put it on YouTube for the whole world to see.
As a teenager myself, I have witnessed many fights upon my peers. These fights are normally small stupid fights that seem to just blow over after a few slaps and name-calling. Well, from the looks of things in the news, kids are beating other kids up so horribly, that the victims have to go to the hospital for it. I mean sure, its not like this is the first time someone has had to go to the hospital for getting into a small childish fight with someone else, but it has just gotten so incredibly ridiculous and out of hand that something needs to be done. Someone will beat another kid up until they practically cant breath anymore, videotape it, then put it on YouTube so that the kid is embarrassed, and the whole world can see? That is just plain humiliating, not only for the individual who was beaten up, but for the person who posted the video because it obviously shows the whole world the maturity level of that person.
Just out of curiosity I had to ask my younger cousin Danielle (13) about this to see if things were different or is there was anything else that could have been going on that is related to this topic. Well, I guess being that she lives in Pennsylvania, things can be a little bit different than for those who live down south, but she has heard of bullying and putting it on youtube as well. And not just only YouTube is where it is being posted, but also on myspace. And pretty much every teenager in the world knows that if something that you don’t want to be on myspace…is on myspace…you might as well just jump off a cliff, because everyone will know about it in roughly an hour after it has been posted.
This whole cyber bullying, and bullying and then videotaping thing needs to come to an end. It is time for everyone to just grow up, smell the roses, and just be happy with themselves and think about what they are going to do later on in their life, rather than waste someone else’s.

The Democratic Primary

April 6th, 2008 · No Comments

So everyday we all turn on the TV and look and see what’s happening in the world. Seriously, if you ask me Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton are the new Britney Spears and Paris Hilton. The two candidates have commercials running every five minutes, billboards; direct mail drops in the mail and advertising just pretty much everywhere! This has coasted nearly a billion dollars if not more. What could have Hillary and Barack could have done with all of that money if it was put towards good coast? They could have…donated it to an orphanages in Rwanda Africa, or done something about our environment that is going down the drain. Or even putting the money towards AIDS research. They could have done so much more with the money that they have added towards their campaign along with the money that others have donated towards the campaign. Think of all of the trees that they have wasted for all of the direct mail drops. I mean…unless they used recycled paper, which the possibility of that is pretty slim, and then I guess it would have been okay.
I’m not saying that whether or not I am a democrat or a republican, I mean in second grade I told one of my classmates that I was a republican and I was pretty much shunned from my little clique and was given the stink eye uncontrollably, and god that would just be horrible if something like that happened on my blog. So I think I will just keep it private.
Democrat or Republican, for us teens it matters; yet it doesn’t at the same time. It matters because…A. they are going to be controlling the United States and that’s a pretty big deal and B. We can’t vote until we are 18 (I am 16).
So right now this whole primary pretty much looks like a waste of money that could be going toward a better cause in my opinion.

Parents and Divorce

March 31st, 2008 · 1 Comment

You have two of them. Two people who brought you into this world that would do just about anything for you. These two people aren’t like regular old people that you see randomly. These people are different. These are the two most important, and influential people that you might just meet. Everyone, and i mean everyone will have a few arguments with their parents in their lifetime. I mean sure I can say that I have gotten into a few arguments with mine, however everything will work out in the long run. When I was a child my parents got divorced. I was 5 years old, and can remember it as if it was yesterday when my Mother came in and told me that my Father was no longer going to be living with us anymore. It was possibly the hardest thing for a mother to do. People ask me, “Do you feel as if it is your fault your parents are divorced” or “is it really weird having your parents divorced?”. both of these questions always have the same answer, and that is no. I never have felt as if it was my fault my parents are divorced, now have i ever thought that it was weird having them divorced. I live in two houses, and have a Step Mother, and a Step Father. Both of which love me as their own. Divorce is hard, Growing up is hard, and being a child of the 21st century is hard. However we all will get through this. And Time is what cures everything in the long run.
